TONGUE TIE
Tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) is a condition present from birth that restricts the tongue's range of motion. Also referred to as Tethered Oral Tissues (TOTs) to include the tongue, tips, and buccal ties.
With tongue-tie, a short, thick or tight band of tissue (lingual frenum) tethers the bottom of the tongue to the floor of the mouth. It may interfere with breast-feeding infants but also the way a child eats, speaks and swallows. Many adults have spent years compensating for their tethered oral tissues (TOT) and experience neck and shoulder tension, pain or discomfort in the TMJ, headaches, and much more!!
Sometimes tongue-tie may not cause problems where other cases require a simple surgical procedure for correction. (mayoclinic.org).
